My Summertime Chi List: 7 Things I Can’t Wait to Do in Chicago

There’s something so special about Summertime Chi — that stretch of months when the city turns into one big rooftop, lakefront, good-vibes-only experience. My bestie gave me the great idea to create a little list of things I want to do, and this year’s list is packed with culture, community, and a few personal favorites I’ve been meaning to check off.

If you’re planning a trip to Chicago or just looking for inspiration, here are the 7 things on my personal Summertime Chi bucket list for 2025.

  1. Black Yacht Weekend: This is the summer event I’m most looking forward to. Black Yacht Weekend is all about vibes on the water — music, dancing, luxury, and Black joy, all while cruising on Lake Michigan. I’ve heard nothing but great things and this year, I’m making it a must.

  2. Go to a lot of Chicago Sky Games: I’ve been meaning to make it to more WNBA games, and the Chicago Sky are right here in our city, holding it down at Wintrust Arena. There’s such a cool energy at these games, and I love how the team brings the community together. This summer, I’m buying all the tickets and wearing all the merch.

  3. Catch a Movie in the Park: It’s such a chill, feel-good way to enjoy a warm evening — just pack a blanket, some snacks (or actual food. I've seen people pull up with pizzas, beer, and all the good stuff), and enjoy a free movie in the park. I’m hoping to catch at least one of the Chicago Park District's Movies in the Park events this season.

  4. Catch a Sunset and Vibe at Nafsi South Shore Beach: One of my favorite things to do in the summer is watch the sunset at the lake — it never gets old. But this year, I’m planning to make it even better by spending an evening at Nafsi at South Shore Beach. It’s more than just a chill spot; it’s a lakeside vibe with music, wellness events, and Black joy on full display. Sunset + community + culture? I’m in.

  5. Go to a White Sox Game: I grew up with both Cubs and Sox fans in my circle, but for the most part if I am to pick a side, it will be the White Sox. The stadium is easy to get to, the food is great, and it’s a more laid-back way to enjoy some baseball with friends. I'm not the biggest baseball a but who am I to say no to sunshine and beers before noon?

  6. Book a Frontier Dinner Event: Attending a dinner event at Frontier has been on my list for a while — they host these creative, themed dinners and whole animal roasts that feel like a foodie experience and a social event all in one.

  7. Go to a Few Festivals: Chicago is that girl when it comes to summer festivals — and this year, I want to be outside for a few that celebrate Black joy, music, good vibes and food. Some of the festivals I'm hitting are the Puerto Rican Festival, Jazzin at the Shed, Chosen Few Picnic, Tacos y Tamales, African/Caribbean International Festival of Life, Chicago House Music Festival, Sangria Festival, & the Chicago Air and Water Show.

My Summer, My Vibe

This list is part celebration, part intention. It’s me making space for joy, connection, and soaking up everything that makes summer in Chicago unforgettable. Let me know in the comments what's on your list of things to do in the summer.
